Chapter Nineteen
Amon sat in a chair with his head in his hands while Bri$$ paced back and forth. Amira had been in there for what seemed liked hours though they had only been at the hospital for a little under two. Both men found themselves going crazy with worry thinking the worse. Neither said a word, or made eye contact with one another, both lost in their own thoughts. Amon’s phone began to ring breaking the silence.
“Yeah….I don’t know….we’re just sitting here waiting. Lock it up. I’ll call you when we know something. ”
Bri$$ turned to look at his brother as he hung up.
“Lovie.”
He responded before Bri$$ even had to ask, not that he would. He could care less who was on Amon’s line. He just wanted to know what was going on with his woman and his child. Just as anxiety began to intensify, the doctor walked into the waiting room. Amon stood and walked to the side of Bri$$. Both waited intensely for an update that would put them at ease. The doctor’s stern facial expression didn’t do that. He was completely unreadable.
“Are either of you the family of Ms. Amira Brentano?”
“I’m her fiancé, this is her brother. How is she? Can we see her? Ya’ll mothafuckas got us out here and aren’t telling us anything. We’ve been here almost two hours. Do ya’ll usually leave people out here without knowing anything? ”
Amon placed a hand on Bri$$’s shoulder surprised by him losing his cool. That wasn’t Bri$$, which ultimately showing just how worried the poor man was.
“Doc, my brother means no harm. We’re just really worried about her. Can you please just tell us what’s going on with her?”
The doctor nodded, not even flinching for a second. He offered them a seat, but neither of the men obliged wanting to hear it all standing.
“Okay then, we found syntocinon in her system, which is usually used to induce labor. In the case of Ms. Amira, she had an allergic reaction and in turn tried to release the baby in the opposite manner.”
Bri$$ looked on not liking the news he was hearing.
“So what are you saying Doc?”
“Ms. Amira’s body was in the process of a miscarriage.”
Without hearing another word, Bri$$ crouched down head in his hands. Everything the doctor said did little to put his mind at ease. He had already fixed his mind around it all being over. They’d lost Sayj. Amon could see Bri$$ damn near falling apart and opted to be his strength.
“So, we lost my niece?”
Amon was scared to hear the answer knowing that the loss would tear their whole world apart. It seemed to take forever for the doctor to offer a response as Bri$$ remained where he was with his head in his hands. The doctor sighed.
“Thankfully, you guys brought her in when you did. Normally there is no coming back from a miscarriage. However, the baby is very premature, almost 12 weeks. We have her in the prenatal intensive care unit, under heavy supervision.
